Failed Work Day

Have you ever had one of those days that by 5pm you're running for the door?

It isn't for pure excitement for the weekend, or dinner, or movie night, a game, or the gym, its for the fear of doing anything else stupid at work that day.

Yeah, I had one of those days, about a week ago.

The day itself started off fine, everything was going smooth until I opened my mouth and wanted to help with some testing our department was doing.

It was one of those busy days where there were e-mails after e-mails asking for this to be tested and that was to be tested and please re-load this. All fine and well, it makes the day go by quicker.

However, one of these test files the people were asking for the test files to be printed. This file was going to our print vendor so it would actually be printed.

The tiny little voice and red flag started to wave and I was like... but it's a test. So I went back and doubled check to make sure they wanted this printed. They were like yes.

So I called the people and wanted to let them know that test files were going to be sent through.

I received a voice mail and proceeded to let them know that I was sending them the file and if that was okay.

"You can call be back at ###-###-#### and my extension is.. um, I actually have no idea what my extension is. I'll send you an e-mail with it. Thank so much and um. talk to you soon."

First Fail.

So the morning continues, I get a giggle, my co-workers get a giggle, the files are being sent, e-mails are being answered, life is busy but good.

We get a call back form the vendor informing us how we're suppose to be sending test files and if we do send test files please just send the whole thing like normal and just let them know. In other words we did it wrong by sending them a partial file.

Second Fail.

Then the afternoon rolls around. A co-worker that gets in later then me is reading through the e-mail and sees the whole things need to be printed. He's like no, no that's not right. I'm like what? I double checked, they wanted it printed. He then informed me that what the one people mean by print is totally different then what we mean by print and we need to call the vendor back and get them not to send or print those things.

So after some confusion and a lot of panic we call back the people to make sure the people know not to send these files. The one person we talk to informs us the other person that was dealing with our files is gone for today but it should be okay.

I was trying to be proactive. I was trying to cover all bases. I was trying to make sure we were on the same page.

I also did not proof read my e-mail before sending it out because I was kind of still panicking and freaking out a little.

I apologized for the incontinence this may have caused. Yes, you read right. I was hoping to put inconvenience but just went with the first little spell checked word instead of really reading the word.

Fail Three.

Co-workers point out mistake and my face turns bright red.

Five minutes later they point out I also misspelled a guys name.

Fail Four.

I sent another e-mail correcting my first error but not the name change one.

Then double checking that one, instead of putting again, I said gain.

Fail Five.

I didn't even realize it was five fails I thought it was only four. Wow. Yeah, last Thursday I was running for the door. As it kept happening my co-workers laughed and I was like give me 5 more minutes and I can join you but right now, nope not that funny.

Has anyone else had a work day like this? The whole foot in your mouth your "helping" and "making it better" just made it worse?

Possums

My co-worker recently went form being a Contractor to a full time employee. This is really exciting news! However, because he was afraid we, me and our fellow co-worker, were going to do something to his cube, he delayed telling us the good news.

So, we aren't one to disappoint, or let good news go un-noticed.

Before he came into work, we took some creative liberty with his personal space.

What do you think? Awesome right? Have you pranked a co-worker before? If so what did you do? Please leave a comment below.

Dude!

So New Dude and I have been now dating for a little bit. We still talk every day and actually want to still see each other. That in itself is super exciting and very new too me. By now most people have gotten bored and we've both parted ways.

I am still "that girl" when I hang out with my friends because A LOT of the conversations involves New Dude. I don't feel too bad for it mostly because he's around and so we're going to talk and hang out and all that so of course my stories are going to involve him.

I am also becoming less of "that girl" that kind of fell out of touch with friends. I wasn't doing it on purpose, but when you have a New Dude in your life you want to spend time with him. With my work schedule and his work schedule being very hard, but not impossible, to work around, time with him was time I ignored phones. Plus, I'm still doing a pretty good job with not muti-tasking my time with people.

Most of the time when I answer the phone to New Dude I usually try and start it off with something like "Hey Handsome" or "Hi Baby" or "Hey, what are you doing"? When I end the conversations it usually ends with, "Alright baby, I'll talk to you later." Then the conversations keeps going and I try again a few more times. He's like me, and knows the conversation has to end but... still has something to talk about.

However, a little while ago, instead of "Alright baby, I'll talk to you later," I said "Alright dude, I'll talk to you later."

New Dude was like "Dude?" "Dude?" "What is with dude?"

Apparently going from Baby to Dude, after having said baby for a while, was a bit of some kind of down grade or something. So I was promptly called out on it. I thought it was kind of funny.

Apparently New Dude does listen when I talk. That's good because one of needs too and I know it's not me.

Alright dudes, enjoy your day!

Abigail in the Rain

Abigail after work

Yesterday, when I was walking out to my car to go from one job to another I noticed I had forgotten something. (See picture above)

This normally wouldn't be a problem, but you might also notice that the ground is wet.

Yes, I was successful in leaving my windows open after lunch so that the inside of my car would be wet. The inside  of my new car, with only one car payment paid car, now was a wet inside along with my work shirt.

That wasn't too bad, I found napkins and cleaned everything off.

The problem was that when I was wiping off the door panels they had white spots all over them. I was getting upset because I'm an idiot and now I will have a spotted car. These doors are now ruined because it really is raining acid rain outside. All of this is due to my lack of checking to make sure my windows were up and me pushing too many buttons.

However, as I was telling New Dude my tale of woe I looked behind me and the spots were gone. Apparently the doors just needed to dry.

Fantastic! It isn't acid rain, it is just wet doors!

Yet again this fancy car is winning. Abigail 2 Shannon 0. To learn this lesson of shutting the windows I've made it so all the windows are now locked and I cannot accidently roll them down. I only have control over the driver side window. I'm assuming the good people a Acura must have done the same mistake and were thinking of me when they created the window lock.

It will be raining here for about the next 4 days so hopefully my grass will continue to grow and my car will hopefully stay dry.

Has anyone else left a window open during a storm and come outside to a wet mess? I know this isn't the first time I've done it. We all remember what happened when I went to the mall. Let me know with a comment below.

Candle Fail

After some slight crazy drama, my twin is going to be having two baby showers and I have been put in charge, for the most part, of the second one.

I have my games and activities all sorted out. The food and been discussed. The invitations went out a while ago, and what people are bringing have already been settled. I have created these lists and checked them over a few times and over the last few days I have been collecting supplies. I still need lots.

Well I was at TJ Max the other day looking for a dress for a wedding/work and I saw a few cute things that I thought would make good prizes. I know it is a baby shower, but being a grown adult with no kids of my own, why in the world would I want a tiny fake plastic baby bottle?

My mentality I that I'd like to find some nice things but maybe a little bit more particle.

It also being summer time, time for bugs and barbecues I saw this really cool set of citronella candles. They were small, colored, and in their own little glass candle holders. There were like 5, perfect for putting around a picnic table or chilling outside.

Particle, useful, and not too badly priced, I added it as a prize.

The dress and gift shopping took place during my lunch break. Which means I had to rush to get back to the office. I got back and just kept everything in my car.

The end story was, when I pulled out the candles to show people what one of the prizes was going to be, it had melted. Luckily in the bag and just all over the paper not on my new clothes or on anything in my car.

I knew their wax was soft but I didn't think that soft. And to be fair I had it leaning instead of lying flat.

So lesson number two about hot items in a car. The first was that wine bottles will blow their corks and now candles should be laid flat on the floor. This way if they do melt it doesn't go anywhere.

It kind of gentle reminder of how hot it is in cars. Please remember to NEVER leave your pet or small child in a car. Thanks, there is my safety announcement for today.

If anyone has a suggestion for a cute prize let me know!

Pomegranate

So I did it. I finally bought a pomegranate. It actually sat on my counter for about a week before I had the time to both take pictures for the blog post and actually eating it.

The first thing I realized was that I have no idea how to tell if one is ripe or not. I want to say I looked in the produce guide that is now sitting in the grocery store's produce section. I said to pick one that feels heavier then it looks.

They all looked and felt the same so that was of no help.

I had a pretty hard one and it stayed hard. It wasn't like a peach or banana over time where it softens this pomegranate just kind of stayed the same hardness.

I know first from a movie and then form co-workers that you eat the seeds and that is it. I was like alright I can do this. So I cut it open.

Then I tried to dig around for the seeds.

So the seeds were firm. I was not expecting that. I was thinking they would be like little squishy packets, but they were actually quite firm.

I took a few and popped them in my mouth and started to chew.

The flavor was good but the seeds, well, it's mostly seed. I kept chewing, knowing the people said you eat the seed. So I was eating the seeds. I did this for a little bit until I felt like I had sawdust in my mouth. I promptly went over the sink and spit everything out.

I decided to take this little adventure outside.

Flowers for Mother's Day

These flowers are actually from my yard
This post is actually totally all about me and taking advantage of the holiday.

I went to the grocery store today during my lunch hour. I'm going to be working in a restaurant all weekend long and figured I'd grab a power bar or two. However, this location was not producing what I wanted so I gave up and vowed to go where I normally shop.

I don't know if anyone else has been in a grocery store but right now the WHOLE thing is packed with flowers. In vases, boxes, plastic bouquets, potted plants. Roses, tulips, daisies, baby's breath, ivy, fake, real, plastic, candy flowers, basically if it looks pretty then it is there.

Now why am I super excited about this?

Come Sunday night or Monday guess who's going flower shopping?

Me!

Most  the stores I know will have all of these beautiful, but not sold, flowers for little to nothing.
I can tell you that my house will probably have a few full vases or two.

These flowers, having done the low cost flower hunting a time or two, usually even last for about a week.

Flowers are one of those things that I enjoy, but I enjoy better when they are dirt cheap. They are already going to die/be gone in a short time, why pay for it?

People could argue the same for food, but I can eat the food. Not all flowers are eatable a lot of them are toxic.

Anyway, treat yourself, or mom, or girlfriend, or boyfriend, or anyone else on Monday with flowers!

Mother's Day Do's and Don'ts

As a few of you may or may not know, but this Sunday, May 12, 2013, is Mother's Day.

This is a day with a lot of mixed emotions.

Some people are having feelings because they may or may not have their Mother's for whatever reason still present in their lives.

They may feel like this is just another big corporations get together just trying to take more money out of our pockets for another fake holiday.

Some people may feel that mom's do their job because the love it and they should just "know" they are appreciated.

Regardless of what you think here is a simple Do and Don't list that I just made up to help you with your decisions about this holiday.

1. Call, send a card, or show up, regardless, and make sure your mom KNOWS that you are thinking about her on Sunday. By not doing this or doing this late... well you're just asking for hurt feelings all which can be avoided.

2. Not getting something for your Mother on Mother's Day is like her telling you she wants sheets for her birthday. No one, or at least 99.9% of people don't actually want sheets for their birthday. This is kind of like a birthday, do a little indulgence. Do the watch she has been looking at, maybe a new bath robe, something awesome and not normally on the to be purchased list.

3. No money? No worries! Make something. There is the option to find some old pictures and paste them to a board, make up a song, write a poem, pick flowers from your yard and deliver them to her house. If you don't have flowers in your yard.. maybe your neighbors? Do something! She is your Mom she is obligated to love anything you've made.

4. DO NOT GO OUT TO EAT! Seriously, stupidest idea ever. If you want to treat you mother to something fancy to eat over the next few days do it by Wednesday or wait until Monday, otherwise you'll be showing you Mom how much you love her by making her starve for 2 hours sitting in a cramped uncomfortable restaurants with hundreds of other Moms. DO NOT DO IT! If you do go out make sure to read this guide first.

5. If you still want to treat her to some great food and cannot cook, it is called the FROZEN section of the grocery store. Just try to follow the directions and use lots of timers. Done!

Distraction

Stickers that were used.

So yesterday I had an appointment with the lady doctor. It was going to be a little different from the normal procedures. In an attempt to distract myself I decided to take the week before the appointment to mostly concentrate on something else.

This week, the something else was what should I put on my thighs for a surprise.

I asked a few of my friends. I thought about a couple things.  I even went to a craft store and checked out all of their stickers, for like a whole lunch break.

My default would have been Pac Man going up one leg and a ghost and fruit on another.

One theme would haven street signs.

Another would have been construction.

I ended up going with these two little stickers brought by my mom.

Isn't she awesome?

So at the please remove your clothes part when they walk away, I put these little guys on my inner thighs. We asked our questions while waiting for the whole put your feet in the stirrups thing.

All of that never wracking, yes. Anticipation of a reaction, or no reaction from doctor, even more so.

Then the laughter and that is too funny came. I gave a high five for doctors with a humor and called it a win.

So the next time you're bored or have to go to the doctors office make it a win. Put some stickers in odd places and see what happens.

For the records I am okay and everything is groovy!

Ah Yes

Last night after work I had two goals. One, to go to the gym and take my favorite class, Body Pump, and two, go bowling.

I was feeling kind of low for not having a new post on Tuesday, but not having anything super exciting or interesting I would go without then put up a blah post.

Lucky for me, yesterday knew I was short on material and provided me with today's post.

After work, I was trying to get out the door so I could go across town and get to my Body Pump class on time. I was a minute or two late leaving because my computer shut down sooner than it should have. I talked to a friend and New Dude for just a moment before hurriedly ending the conversation to go get changed.

The class stated at 5:30, it was like 5:27. I had enough time to change, put in my contacts, and walk into the class, that had already started.

Great, I forgot my water bottle in the car, and the class has already started. It was okay though, they were just on the warm up, not much more than that, I can still do this.

This class is PACKED. I look around and see if there is any space for me to even set up. If there was no room, then I'd have to leave anyways.

One spot open, right in the middle of the room, at the very front of the class. Alright, that's cool I got this. I duck and weave between like 8 people to get to the equipment. I quickly notice that the weights are pretty much all gone but there is still a bar so I should be okay. I also notice I need a bench.

Well, a bench for this class is actually one of those steppers. You use the top and then two little risers on both sides. Alright, I can do that. Except instead of the normal 4 I need, there are only 3 risers. First, I'm trying to figure out how they would have an odd number. Then I shake my head and go it doesn't matter. I'll just be really close to the floor and grab just two of the risers.

I go back to get up my bar. However, due to my worry about getting everything I quickly realize that they only have one size of plates left. The big ones. The ones I use twice in the whole class. All the small and medium plates are all gone. I notice they have some free weights and quickly try and figure out if I could get away with those...probably not. Crap.

I stand in this little equipment side room trying to decide what I need to do. Actually what I can do. I have to face it. I'm too late for this class. There is nothing for me to work out with so I have to go back and pick up the low lying bench I just placed and bring it back into the room. Then I have to duck and dive through the millions of people again to leave the room. Sad, un-sweaty, and unable to take my class. Plus, since I was just going to take the class, I didn't bring my knee braces, so I couldn't even run

I took this time to say hi to a friend, go get my water bottle, and then do my own work out. I probably didn't do as good of a job as the class would have but I still felt better after.
